Zoe Saldana was born in New Jersey to Dominican parents, moved to the Domincan Republic for 7 years and studied ballet there at Ritmos Espacio de Danza academy (actually known as ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance academy) , and then went back to the United States to continue her career.
